✧ We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Madinah for the Farewell Pilgrimage, until when we were at 'Usfan, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed the 'umrah has been incorporated into the hajj." Suraqah b. Malik or Malik b. Suraqah — 'Abd al-'Aziz was uncertain — said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, teach us as one teaches a people as if they were born today: is this 'umrah of ours for this year of ours, or forever?" He said: "Rather forever." When we arrived in Makkah, we circumambulated the House and between al-Safa and al-Marwah. Then he commanded us to engage in mut'ah with women. We went back to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, they refuse unless a fixed term is set." He said: "Then do it." I went out with a companion of mine, wearing a striped garment, and he was wearing a striped garment. We entered upon a woman and presented ourselves to her. She began to look at my companion's garment and thought it better than mine, and she looked at me and thought me more youthful than him. She said: "A garment for a garment," and she chose me. I married her for ten days with my garment. I spent that night with her. When I arose in the morning, I went to the mosque and heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the pulpit delivering a sermon, saying: "Whoever among you has married a woman for a fixed term, let him give her what he specified for her and not take back anything of what he gave her, and let him part from her, for Allah, exalted is He, has forbidden it to you until the Day of Resurrection."
