حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الطُّفَيْلِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وسَمِعْتُ أَبِي مَرَّةً يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الطُّفَيْلِ الْبَكَّائِيُّ الْعَامِرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورٌ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّاهُ مُحَمَّدًا، فَقُلْنَا: لَا نَدَعُكَ تُسَمِّيهِ بِاسْمِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَأَتَى الرَّجُلُ بِابْنِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّهُ وُلِدَ لِي غُلَامٌ وَإِنِّي سَمَّيْتُهُ بِاسْمِكَ فَأَبَى قَوْمِي أَنْ يَدَعُونِي، قَالَ: بَلَى سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي، فَإِنِّي قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ.

✧ A boy was born to a man among us, and he named him Muhammad. We said, 'We will not let you name him with the name of the Prophet ﷺ.' So the man brought his son to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of God, a boy was born to me, and I named him with your name, but my people refuse to let me.' He said, 'Yes, name with my name, but do not use my kunya, for I am the divider who divides among you.'
