✧ The Prophet ﷺ provided us with a bag of dates. He would take a handful and give it to us, then take another date and give it to us. We would suck on the dates and drink water over them until nightfall. Then, we would finish what was in the bag and suffer from extreme hunger. Suddenly, the sea threw a dead whale at us. Abu 'Ubaidah said, "It is for the warriors and the hungry, so eat." So we ate. Abu 'Ubaidah would prop up one of his ribs from his side, and the rider would pass under it while his five companions would sit in the same spot. We ate from it and rubbed it on ourselves until our bodies were restored and our skins became healthy. When we arrived in Madinah, Jabir mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "This provision was brought forth by Allah for you. If you still have some, feed it to us." He said, "We still had some left, so he sent some of it to him."
