✧ We raided the army of al-Khabaṭ, and our commander was Abū ʿUbaydah b. al-Jarrāḥ. We became extremely hungry. Then the sea cast up for us a fish the like of which we had never seen, called al-ʿanbar (sperm whale). We ate from it for half a month. Abū ʿUbaydah took one of its bones, and a rider would pass under it.
