حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ أَوْ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا، قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَكَانَ لَهُ حَائِطٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، حَائِطِي لِلهِ، وَلَوِ اسْتَطَعْتُ أَنْ أُسِرَّهُ لَمْ أُعْلِنْهُ، فَقَالَ: اجْعَلْهُ فِي قَرَابَتِكَ أَوْ أَقْرَبِيكَ

Translation

✧ When this verse was revealed: 'You will never attain righteousness until you spend from what you love,' or 'Who is it that will lend God a good loan,' Abū Ṭalḥa, who had a garden, said: O Messenger of God, my garden is for God, and if I could keep it secret I would not make it public. He said: Make it for your relatives or your nearest kin.
