✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ came to Madinah, he stayed in the upper part of Madinah, in a quarter called Banu Amr b. Awf, and he remained among them for fourteen nights. Then he sent for the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar. He said: They came with their swords slung over their shoulders. He said: It is as if I can see the Messenger of God ﷺ on his mount, with Abu Bakr riding behind him, and the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar around him, until he stopped in the courtyard of Abu Ayyub. He said: He used to pray wherever the prayer overtook him, and he would pray in sheepfolds. Then he ordered the construction of the mosque, and he sent for the chiefs of Banu al-Najjar, and they came. He said: “O Banu al-Najjar, sell me this walled garden of yours for its price.” They said: “No, by God, we seek its price only from God.” He said: In it there was what I am telling you: there were graves of the polytheists, ruins, and date palms. The Messenger of God ﷺ ordered the graves of the polytheists to be dug up, the ruins to be leveled, and the date palms to be cut down. He said: They lined up the date palms as the qiblah of the mosque, and they made its two doorposts of stone. He said: They carried that rock while chanting, and the Messenger of God ﷺ was with them, saying: “O God, there is no good but the good of the Hereafter, so grant victory to the Ansar and the Muhajirun.”
