✧ 'Ali b. Abi Talib said to me: "O Ibn A'bud, do you know what the right of food is?" He said: I said: "And what is its right, O Ibn Abi Talib?" He said: "You say: 'In the name of God; O God, bless us in what You have provided us.'" He said: "And do you know its gratitude when you finish?" He said: I said: "And what is its gratitude?" He said: "You say: 'Praise be to God who has fed us and given us drink.'" Then he said: "Shall I tell you about myself and Fatimah? She was the daughter of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and she was among the most beloved of his family to him, and she was my wife. She turned the mill until the mill left marks on her hand, and she drew water with the water skin until the water skin left marks on her neck, and she swept the house until her clothes became dusty, and she lit the fire under the cooking pot until her clothes became soiled, and harm came to her from that. Then captives—or servants—were brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: So I said to her: 'Go to the Messenger of God ﷺ and ask him for a servant to protect you from the heat of what you are in.' So she went to the Messenger of God ﷺ and found servants with him—or servants—so she returned and did not ask him. Then he mentioned the hadith, and he said: 'Shall I not direct you to what is better for you than a servant? When you go to your bed, glorify thirty-three times, praise thirty-three times, and magnify thirty-four times.'" He said: So she put out her head and said: "I am pleased with God and His Messenger," twice.
