Musnad Ahmad 13065

Translation

✧ One night he was praying in his room when some of his companions came and prayed following his prayer. He shortened it, then entered the house, then came out, and did that several times, each time praying and then leaving. When morning came they said: O Messenger of God, we prayed with you last night, and we wished you would prolong your prayer. He said: I knew you were there, and I did that deliberately.
