✧ I was sitting by the pulpit on Friday while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the sermon, when one of the people in the mosque said: “O Messenger of Allah, the rain has been withheld, the livestock have perished. Supplicate to Allah to give us rain.” Anas said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands, and I saw no cloud in the sky. Then the clouds were brought together — Hajjaj said: Allah brought the clouds together — and it rained — Hajjaj said: we hastened — until I saw the strong man worrying about reaching his family. We were rained upon for seven days. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to deliver the sermon on the following Friday, when one of the people in the mosque said: “O Messenger of Allah, the houses have collapsed, travel has been cut off. Supplicate to Allah [Mighty and Majestic] to lift it from us.” He said: He raised his hands and said: “O Allah, around us, not upon us.” He said: The clouds parted above our heads until we were like in a crown, with rain falling around us and not upon us.
