Translation

✧ We conquered Makkah, then we raided Hunayn. The polytheists came with the finest ranks ever seen—or I have seen: the cavalry was arrayed, then the fighters were arrayed, then the women were arrayed behind that, then the sheep were arrayed, then the camels were arrayed. He said: And we were many people, having reached six thousand, and on the flank of our cavalry was Khalid b. al-Walid. He said: Our horses began to seek refuge behind our backs. He said: It was not long before our cavalry was exposed, and the bedouins fled, as did those among the people we know. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ called out, "O emigrants, O emigrants!" Then he said, "O Ansar, O Ansar!" Anas said: This is a saying of my uncles. He said: We said, "At your service, O Messenger of God." He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ advanced. He said: By God, we did not reach them until God had defeated them. He said: We seized that property, then we set out to al-Taif and besieged them for forty nights, then we returned to Makkah. He said: We camped, and the Messenger of God ﷺ began giving a man a hundred and giving a man a hundred. He said: The Ansar talked among themselves: "As for the one who fought him, he gives him; as for the one who did not fight him, he does not give him." He said: The talk was conveyed to the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then he ordered the chiefs of the emigrants and the Ansar to enter upon him, then he said, "Let no one enter upon me except an Ansari—or: the Ansar." He said: We entered the tent until we filled the tent. The Prophet of God ﷺ said, "O company of the Ansar—or as he said—what is this talk that has reached me?" They said, "What has reached you, O Messenger of God?" He said, "What is this talk that has reached me?" They said, "What has reached you, O Messenger of God?" He said, "Would you not be pleased that the people go with the wealth and you go with the Messenger of God ﷺ until you enter your homes?!" They said, "We are pleased, O Messenger of God." He said, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "If the people were to take one mountain pass and the Ansar were to take another mountain pass, I would take the mountain pass of the Ansar." They said, "We are pleased, O Messenger of God." He said, "Then be pleased," or as he said.
