حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ الْمَعْنَى حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يَقُولُ لِامْرَأَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ: أَتَعْرِفِينَ فُلَانَةَ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهَا وَهِيَ تَبْكِي عَلَى قَبْرٍ، فَقَالَ لَهَا: اتَّقِي اللهَ وَاصْبِرِي، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ: إِلَيْكَ عَنِّي، فَإِنَّكَ لَا تُبَالِي مُصِيبَتِي، قَالَ: وَلَمْ تَكُنْ عَرَفَتْهُ، فَقِيلَ لَهَا: إِنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَخَذَهَا مِثْلُ الْمَوْتِ، فَجَاءَتْ إِلَى بَابِهِ، فَلَمْ تَجِدْ عَلَيْهِ بَوَّابًا، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْرِفْكَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الصَّبْرَ عِنْدَ أَوَّلِ صَدْمَةٍ

✧ I heard Anas saying to a woman of his family: 'Do you know so-and-so? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by her while she was weeping at a grave, and he said to her: Fear Allah and be patient. She said to him: Away from me! You do not care about my affliction.' He said: 'She had not recognized him, so someone said to her: It is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was seized like death and came to his door, and found no doorkeeper. She said: O Messenger of Allah, I did not recognize you. He said: Patience is only at the first shock.'
