✧ He came upon Hamzah and stood over him, and saw that he had been mutilated. He said: 'Were it not that Safiyyah would find it hard, I would have left him until scavengers ate him, so that he might be gathered from their bellies.' Then he said: 'He called for a striped cloak and shrouded him in it.' He said: 'When it was extended over his head, his feet showed; and when extended over his feet, his head showed.' He said: 'The slain were many and the clothes were few.' He said: 'So two men were shrouded, or he shrouded two men—Safwan was unsure—and three in a single cloth.' He said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ would ask which of them knew more of the Quran, and would place him first toward the qiblah.' He said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ buried them and did not pray over them.'
