حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا انْهَزَمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ نَادَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اقْتُلْ مَنْ بَعْدَنَا انْهَزَمُوا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ، إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ كَفَى، قَالَ: فَأَتَاهَا أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَمَعَهَا مِغْوَلٌ، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ؟ قَالَتْ: إِنْ دَنَا مِنِّي أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ بَعَجْتُهُ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، انْظُرْ مَا تَقُولُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ

✧ When the Muslims were defeated on the day of Ḥunayn, Umm Sulaym called out: “O Messenger of God, kill those behind us who fled!” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “O Umm Sulaym, God, Mighty and Majestic, has sufficed.” Then Abū Ṭalḥa came to her while she had a dagger, and said: “What is this, O Umm Sulaym?” She said: “If any of the polytheists comes near me, I will stab him.” Abū Ṭalḥa said: “O Messenger of God, see what Umm Sulaym is saying.”
