✧ A man from the Ansar said to his companions: 'By Allah, I had been telling you that if matters became settled, he would favor others over you.' They replied to him harshly. He said: That reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: He came to them and said some things I do not remember. They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'You used not to ride horses.' He said: Every time he said something to them, they said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: When he saw that they were not responding to him with anything, he said: 'Will you not say: Your people fought you and we helped you, and your people expelled you and we gave you refuge?' They said: 'We do not say that, O Messenger of Allah; you say it.' He said: 'O company of the Ansar, are you not pleased that the people take the world and you take the Messenger of Allah?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'O company of the Ansar, are you not pleased that if the people were to travel through a valley and you travel through a valley, I would travel through the valley of the Ansar?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Were it not for the emigration, I would have been a man of the Ansar. The Ansar are my inner circle, my family, and my trusted confidants to whom I resort. So pardon their wrongdoers and accept from their good-doers.' Abu Said said: I said to Muawiyah: 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'
