✧ Ali sent to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in Yemen a small nugget of gold in its dust, and he divided it among al-Aqra' b. Habis al-Hanzali, then one of Banu Mujashi'; 'Uyayna b. Badr al-Fazari; 'Alqama b. 'Ulatha al-'Amiri, then one of Banu Kilab; and Zayd al-Khayl al-Ta'i, then one of Banu Nabhan. He said: Quraysh and the Ansar became angry and said: "He gives to the chiefs of the people of Najd and leaves us." He said: "I am only winning their hearts." He said: Then a man came forward with sunken eyes, a protruding forehead, a thick beard, prominent cheekbones, and a shaved head. He said: "O Muhammad, fear God." He said: "Who will obey God if I disobey Him? He entrusts me with the people of the earth and you do not trust me?!" He said: A man from the people asked the Prophet ﷺ to kill him—I think it was Khalid b. al-Walid—but he prevented him. When he turned away, he said: "From the seed of this one will come a people who recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through Islam as an arrow passes through the game. They will kill the people of Islam and leave the people of idols. If I reach them, I will kill them like the killing of 'Ad."
