✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Alqamah b. Mujazziz on an expedition in which I was included. When we reached the head of our campaign or we were on part of the road, he gave permission to a group of the army, and appointed over them Abdullah b. Hudhafah b. Qays al-Sahmi, and he was one of the companions of Badr, and he had a jesting nature, meaning humor. I was among those who returned with him. We camped at part of the road. He said: The people lit a fire to prepare something for themselves on it, or to warm themselves. He said: He said to them: Do I not have the right to be heard and obeyed by you? They said: Yes. He said: Is there anything I command you except that you do it? They said: Yes. He said: I solemnly adjure you by my right and your obedience that you leap into this fire. Some people stood up and girded themselves, until he thought they were about to leap. Then he said: Restrain yourselves, for I was only joking with you. They mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ after they arrived. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever among them commands you to disobey, do not obey him.
