✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived, we used to notify him of those of our dead who were present, and he would come to them before they died, attend them, seek forgiveness for them, and await their death. He said: That sometimes held him up for a long time, which was hard on him. He said: So we said: It would be gentler for the Messenger of Allah if we did not notify him of the dying person until he had died. He said: So when someone among us died, we would notify him, and he would come to his family, seek forgiveness for him, and pray over him. Then, if he wished to attend his burial, he would wait for it; and if he wished to leave, he would leave. He said: We continued that way for another period. He said: Then we said: It would be gentler for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ if we carried our dead to his house and did not make him come out or trouble him. He said: So we did that, and that became the practice.
