حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ الْحَبَشِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْغَافِرِ يَقُولُسَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ

جَاءَ بِلَالٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِتَمْرٍ، فَقَالَ: مِنْ أَيْنَ لَكَ هَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ: كَانَ عِنْدِي تَمْرٌ رَدِيءٌ فَبِعْتُهُ بِهَذَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَوَّهْ ! عَيْنُ الرِّبَا، عَيْنُ الرِّبَا، فَلَا تَقْرَبَنَّهُ، وَلَكِنْ بِعْ تَمْرَكَ بِمَا شِئْتَ، ثُمَّ اشْتَرِ بِهِ مَا بَدَا لَكَ

Translation

✧ Bilal came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with some dates. He said: 'Where did you get this?' He said: 'I had some inferior dates, so I sold them for this.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Ah! The very essence of riba, the very essence of riba. Do not go near it. Rather, sell your dates for whatever you wish, then buy with that whatever you like.'
