✧ Charity is not lawful for a wealthy person except for five: an agent employed to collect it, a man who bought it with his own money, a debtor, a warrior in the path of God, or a poor person who was given charity from it and then gave some of it as a gift to a wealthy person.

machine translationﷺ said: "Charity is not lawful for a rich person except in five cases..." the hadith. He said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from Maʿmar and al-Thawrī, from Zayd b. Aslam, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd. Ibn ʿAskar said this from him, while others said: from ʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Maʿmar alone, and that is more sound (aṣaḥḥ). ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mahdī narrated this hadith from al-Thawrī, from Zayd b. Aslam, who said: "The reliable one (al-thabt) narrated to me from the Prophet ﷺ," and he did not name a man, and that is the correct (ṣaḥīḥ) version. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Muḥammad b. Sahl b. ʿAskar narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us: Sufyān al-Thawrī and Maʿmar informed us together, from Zayd b. Aslam, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Charity is not lawful for a rich person except in five cases: the one who works to collect it, or a warrior in the cause of Allah, or a man who bought it with his own money, or a poor person to whom it was given in charity and who then gave some of it as a gift to a rich person." ʿAlī b. ʿAbdullāh b. Mubashshir narrated to us, he said: Aḥmad b. Sinān narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mahdī narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Zayd b. Aslam, who said: "The reliable one (al-thabt) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Charity is not lawful for a rich person except in five cases,'" then he mentioned something like the hadith of ʿAbd al-Razzāq.
