✧ I asked Ibn Abbas about currency exchange (al-ṣarf) hand to hand, and he said: “There is no harm in that—two for one, more than that or less.” Then I performed Hajj another time while the shaykh was still alive, and I came to him and asked about exchange. He said: “Weight for weight.” I said: “You gave me a fatwa of two for one, and I have been issuing fatwas according to it since you gave it to me.” He said: “That was my personal opinion. Here is Abu Said al-Khudri narrating from the Messenger of God ﷺ, so I abandoned my opinion in favor of the hadith of the Messenger of God ﷺ.”
