✧ I stayed with Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and he and I shared the gathering. He narrated that one morning he woke having tied a stone to his stomach out of hunger. His wife or his mother said to him, 'Go to the Prophet ﷺ and ask him, for so-and-so went to him and asked him, and he gave him, and so-and-so went to him and asked him, and he gave him.' He said, 'I said, I will look for something.' He said, 'I looked, then I came to him while he was delivering a sermon, and I caught from his words while he was saying: Whoever seeks chastity, God will make him chaste, and whoever seeks self-sufficiency, God will make him self-sufficient, and whoever asks us, either we give him, or we share with him' - Abu Jamrah was uncertain - 'and whoever refrains from asking us or seeks self-sufficiency is more beloved to us than one who asks us.' He said, 'I returned and did not ask him for anything, and God, Mighty and Majestic, continued to provide for us until I do not know of any household among the Ansar with more wealth than ours.'
