machine translationIbn Isḥāq narrates it from ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Salamah al-Mājishūn, saying from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Rāfiʿ, from Abū Saʿīd. Al-Walīd b. Kathīr narrated it from Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī, from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Rāfiʿ, from Abū Saʿīd. Muḥammad b. Isḥāq also narrated it with another chain from Salīṭ b. Ayyūb. There is disagreement about Ibn Isḥāq: Muḥammad b. Salamah al-Ḥarrānī said, from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq, from Salīṭ b. Ayyūb, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Rāfiʿ, from Abū Saʿīd, and he erred. Ibrāhīm b. Saʿd, Aḥmad b. Khālid al-Wahbī and Shuʿayb b. Isḥāq said, from Ibn Isḥāq, from Salīṭ b. Ayyūb, from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Rāfiʿ, from Abū Saʿīd, and this is closer to correct. Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr narrated it from Ibn Isḥāq but did not establish its chain and confused it, saying from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿUtbah, and once saying from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿUmar. Likewise Ḥammād b. Salamah said from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq. Jarīr b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd said, from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq, "it reached me from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Rāfiʿ, from Abū Saʿīd", and he came close, because Ibn Isḥāq narrated it from Salīṭ b. Ayyūb from ʿUbayd Allāh. Muṭarrif b. Ṭarīf narrated this hadith from Khālid b. Abī Nawf, and there is disagreement about Muṭarrif: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Qasmalī said, from Muṭarrif, from Khālid b. Abī Nawf, from Salīṭ, from the son of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, from his father. Asbāṭ b. Muḥammad said, from Muṭarrif, from Khālid, from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq, thus returning the hadith to Ibn Isḥāq, and he narrated it as a mursal report from Abū Saʿīd. Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr said, from Ibn Abī Dhiʾb, from the one who informed him, from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh, and it was narrated from Abū Saʿīd. Wakīʿ and Abū Muʿāwiyah said, from Ibn Abī Dhiʾb, from a man he did not name, from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh, and they traced it to Abū Saʿīd. The best of them in chain is the hadith of al-Walīd b. Kathīr from Muḥammad b. Kaʿb, and the hadith of Ibn Isḥāq from ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Salamah. The Shaykh said: Al-Mājishūn is Yaʿqūb b. Abī Salamah, and among his descendants are Yūsuf b. Yaʿqūb and ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Yaʿqūb. Yūsuf narrates from al-Zuhrī, Ṣāliḥ b. Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, Ṣāliḥ b. Kaysān, his father Yaʿqūb and others. His brother ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Yaʿqūb narrates mursal hadiths from Muḥammad b. al-Munkadir; Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, Maḥmūd b. Khidāsh and al-Ḥasan al-Zaʿfarānī narrated from him. This ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz was called Abū al-Aṣbagh. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Salamah al-Mājishūn, brother of Yaʿqūb, narrates from ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar, from ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar, ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Rāfiʿ b. Khadīj, Nāfiʿ the freedman of Abū Qatādah and others. His son ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Salamah narrates from Zayd b. Aslam, ʿAmr b. Abī ʿAmr, Muḥammad b. al-Munkadir, al-Zuhrī and others. His son ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Mājishūn was a jurist among the companions of Mālik, the teacher of Aḥmad b. al-Muʿaddil, and his brother Yūsuf b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, from whom al-Zubayr b. Bakkār narrated. This is what I recall of their children. He was nicknamed al-Mājishūn because of the redness of his face.
