✧ Ibn 'Umar came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and said: O Abu Sa'id, was I not informed that you pledged allegiance to two commanders before the people united upon one commander? He said: Yes, I pledged allegiance to Ibn al-Zubayr, then the people of Syria came and led me to Hubaysh b. Dulja, and I pledged allegiance to him. Ibn 'Umar said: That is what I feared, that is what I feared! - and Hammad prolonged his voice with it. Abu Sa'id said: O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, have you not heard that the Prophet ﷺ said: Whoever is able not to sleep a night nor wake in the morning nor reach the evening except with a commander over him? He said: Yes, but I dislike pledging allegiance to two commanders before the people unite upon one commander.
