✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed and took off his sandals, so the people took off their sandals. When he finished, he said: Why did you take off your sandals? They said: O Messenger of Allah, we saw you take them off, so we took them off. He said: Jibril came to me and told me that there was something impure on them. So when one of you comes to the mosque, let him turn his sandals over and look at them; if he sees something impure on them, let him touch it to the ground, then he may pray in them.

machine translationAl-Sakhtiyānī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. ʿAbbād b. Kathīr narrated it from Ayyūb, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Abū Hurayrah, and he erred (wahima) in it. Maʿmar narrated it from Ayyūb, from Abū Naʿāmah, from Abū Naḍrah as a mursal report (mursal). Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated it from Abū Naʿāmah, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd, and this is the correct (ṣawāb) version.
in مسند أحمد, p. 11263 - Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī
machine translationḤammād b. Zayd narrated it from Ayyūb, from Abū Nuʿāmah, from Abū Naḍrah that the Prophet ﷺ [said...], as a mursal report. Abū Ayyūb is the better memorizer, and Ayyūb weakened the narration of this hadith, the hadith of Ḥammād b. Salamah. Ibrāhīm b. Ṭahmān narrated it from Ḥajjāj al-Aḥwal, from Abū Nuʿāmah, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Prophet ﷺ. The connected (muttaṣil) version is more likely correct, because two narrators agreed on it from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Prophet ﷺ.
in مسند أحمد, p. 11263 - Dāraquṭnī
machine translationAbū Nuʿāmah narrates it from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd. Ḥammād b. Salamah, al-Ḥajjāj b. al-Ḥajjāj, Abū ʿĀmir al-Khazzāz and ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān reported it. It is also reported from Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī, from Abū Nuʿāmah, as a mursal report. Whoever said in it "from Ayyūb, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Abū Hurayrah" has made an error. The correct account is that Ayyūb heard it from Abū Nuʿāmah and did not remember its chain, so he transmitted it as mursal. The correct view is the statement of those who said "from Abū Saʿīd".
