✧ Hearts are four: a smooth heart in which there is a lamp shining; a wrapped heart bound upon its covering; an overturned heart; and a heart with both faith and hypocrisy. As for the smooth heart, it is the heart of the believer, its lamp is its light. As for the wrapped heart, it is the heart of the disbeliever. As for the overturned heart, it is the heart of the hypocrite: he knew then he denied. As for the heart with both faith and hypocrisy, the example of faith in it is like the example of a herb that good water nourishes, and the example of hypocrisy in it is like the example of a wound that pus and blood nourish. Whichever of the two substances prevails over the other, it prevails over it.
