✧ I attended a funeral with the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “O people, this community will be tested in its graves. When a person is buried and his companions leave him, an angel comes to him with a sledgehammer in his hand and sits him up. He says: ‘What do you say about this man?’ If he was a believer, he says: ‘I bear witness that there is no god but God, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.’ He says: ‘You have spoken the truth.’ Then a door to the Fire is opened for him, and he says: ‘This would have been your abode had you disbelieved in your Lord. But since you believed, this is your abode.’ Then a door to Paradise is opened for him, and he wants to rise toward it, but he says to him: ‘Stay still,’ and his grave is made spacious for him. If he was a disbeliever or a hypocrite, he says to him: ‘What do you say about this man?’ He says: ‘I do not know; I heard people saying something.’ He says: ‘You did not know, you did not follow, and you were not guided.’ Then a door to Paradise is opened for him, and he says: ‘This would have been your abode had you believed in your Lord. But since you disbelieved in Him, God, Mighty and Majestic, has replaced it for you with this.’ And a door to the Fire is opened for him. Then he strikes him a blow with the sledgehammer that all of God's creation hears except the two heavy ones (humans and jinn).” Some of the people said: “O Messenger of God, is there anyone upon whom an angel with a sledgehammer in his hand stands except that he is terrified at that moment?” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “God makes firm those who believe with the firm word.”
