A Jewish neighbour

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَشِيرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَغُلاَمُهُ يَسْلُخُ شَاةً فَقَالَ يَا غُلاَمُ إِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَابْدَأْ بِجَارِنَا الْيَهُودِيِّ

فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الْيَهُودِيُّ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُوصِي بِالْجَارِ حَتَّى خَشِينَا أَوْ رُئِينَا أَنَّهُ سَيُوَرِّثُهُ

Translation

✧ A man among the people said: "The Jew, may Allah set you right?" He said: "I heard the Prophet ﷺ enjoining [good treatment of] the neighbour until we feared or thought that he would make him an heir."
