حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ:

أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ يَعُودُهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ: وَصَلَتْكَ رَحِمٌ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: قَالَ اللهُ: أَنَا الرَّحْمَنُ وَهِيَ الرَّحِمُ، شَقَقْتُ لَهَا مِنَ اسْمِي، فَمَنْ وَصَلَهَا وَصَلْتُهُ، وَمَنْ قَطَعَهَا قَطَعْتُهُ، أَوْ قَالَ: بَتَّهَا أَبُتُّهُ

✧ He entered upon Abd al-Rahman b. Awf to visit him, and Abd al-Rahman said to him: A womb has connected you. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: God said: "I am the Merciful, and it is the womb. I derived for it a name from My name. Whoever maintains it, I maintain him; and whoever severs it, I sever him." Or he said: "He severs it, I cut him off."
