✧ While Abu Bakr was engaged in his work, he became angry with a man among the Muslims, and his anger against him became very intense. When I saw that, I said: O successor of the Messenger of God, shall I strike his neck? When I mentioned killing, he turned away from that whole matter to something else of that sort. When we dispersed, Abu Bakr sent for me afterwards and said: O Abu Barza, what did you say? He said: I had forgotten what I said. He said: I said: And what did I say? Remind me. He said: Do you not remember what you said? I said: No, by God. He said: Do you recall when you saw me angry with the man and you said: Shall I strike his neck, O successor of the Messenger of God? Do you not remember that? Would you have done it? He said: Yes, by God, and even now if you command me, I will do it. He said: Woe to you—or: may your mother be bereaved of you—by God, that is not for anyone after the Messenger of God ﷺ.
