✧ The people of Kufa complained about Sa'd to Umar, saying: 'He does not pray well.' Sa'd said: 'As for me, I used to lead them in the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the two evening prayers, without omitting anything from them. I would be deliberate in the first two and shorten the last two.' Umar said: 'That is what is expected of you, O Abu Ishaq.' He sent men to inquire about him in Kufa. They did not come to any mosque among the mosques of the people of Kufa but that the people spoke well of him and praised him, until they came to a mosque among the mosques of Banu Abs. There a man called Abu Sa'dah said: 'Since you have adjured us by Allah, he did not act justly in judgment, nor divide equally, nor conduct expeditions properly.' Sa'd said: 'O Allah, if he is lying, then blind his sight, prolong his life, and expose him to trials.' Abd al-Malik said: I later saw him accosting slave women in the streets. When he was asked, 'How are you?' he would say: 'Old, poor, and afflicted. The supplication of Sa'd has overtaken me.'
