✧ A man came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, I am afflicted by hardship. He sent to his wives but found nothing with them. He said: Is there not a man who will host this one tonight? A man stood up and went to his family. He said to his family: This is a guest of the Messenger of God ﷺ, do not hold back anything from him. She said: By God, I have nothing but the food of the children. He said: When the children want dinner, put them to sleep, and come and extinguish the lamp, and we will go hungry tonight. She did so. Then the man went early to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: God has indeed wondered - or: God has laughed - at so-and-so and so-and-so. Then God revealed: "They give preference over themselves even though they are in need."
