وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:

تَفَرَّقَتِ الْيَهُودُ عَلَى إِحْدَى وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً، وَتَفَرَّقَتِ النَّصَارَى عَلَى إِحْدَى - أَوْ ثِنْتَيْنِ - وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً، قَالَ: إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ: إِحْدَى وَسَبْعِينَ، وَالْأُخْرَى: ثِنْتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ، وَتَفْتَرِقُ أُمَّتِي عَلَى ثَلَاثٍ وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً

Translation

✧ The Jews divided into seventy-one sects, and the Christians divided into seventy-one or seventy-two sects. He said: One of the two groups said: seventy-one, and the other said: seventy-two. And my nation will divide into seventy-three sects.
