✧ I had a time before dawn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when I would come to him. When I came, I would ask permission. If I found him praying, he would say subhan Allah, and I would enter. If I found him free, he would give me permission. I came to him one night and he gave me permission, and said: The angel came to me – or he said: Jibril – and I said: Enter. He said: In the house there is something I cannot enter because of. He said: I looked and said: I do not find anything. He said: Look. So I looked, and there was a puppy belonging to al-Husayn b. Ali, tied to the leg of the bed in the house of Umm Salama. He said: The angels – or: we, the company of angels – do not enter a house in which there is an image, or a dog, or a person in a state of major ritual impurity.

machine translationThis is disputed in its chain and its text: it is said that he said "Subḥān Allāh", and it is said that he cleared his throat. He said: its basis rests on ʿAbdullāh b. Nujayy. I say: there is disagreement about him; it is said that he narrated from ʿAlī, and it is said that he narrated from his father, from ʿAlī.
