I had an hour at the end of the night in which I would enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If he was in prayer, he would say "Subḥān Allāh", and that was his permission; and if he was not in prayer, he would give me permission.

machine translationIn its chain is ʿAbdullāh b. Nujayy; al-Bukhārī said of him: "There is something questionable about him (fīhi naẓar)."

machine translationThere is some criticism (maqāl) of ʿAbdullāh b. Nujayy.
in سنن البيهقي الكبرى, p. 3391 - Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translationThis is disputed in its chain and its text: it is said that he said "Subḥān Allāh", and it is said that he cleared his throat. He said: its basis rests on ʿAbdullāh b. Nujayy. I say: there is disagreement about him; it is said that he narrated from ʿAlī, and it is said that he narrated from his father, from ʿAlī.
in سنن البيهقي الكبرى, p. 3391 - Yaḥyá b. Maʿīn
machine translationʿAbdullāh did not hear it from ʿAlī; between him and ʿAlī was his father.
