حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ:

كُنَّا فِي جِنَازَةٍ فِي بَقِيعِ الْغَرْقَدِ، وَجَاءَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَعَدَ وَقَعَدْنَا حَوْلَهُ، وَمَعَهُ مِخْصَرَةٌ، فَنَكَّسَ فَجَعَلَ يَنْكُتُ بِمِخْصَرَتِهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ، مَا مِنْ نَفْسٍ مَنْفُوسَةٍ إِلَّا وَقَدْ كَتَبَ اللهُ مَكَانَهَا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَمَكَانَهَا مِنَ النَّارِ، وَإِلَّا قَدْ كُتِبَتْ شَقِيَّةً أَوْ سَعِيدَةً، قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَا نَمْكُثُ عَلَى كِتَابِنَا وَنَدَعُ الْعَمَلَ ؟ فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ السَّعَادَةِ، فَسَيَصِيرُ إِلَى عَمَلِ أَهْلِ السَّعَادَةِ، وَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّقَاءِ، فَسَيَصِيرُ إِلَى عَمَلِ أَهْلِ الشَّقَاءِ، فَقَالَ: اعْمَلُوا فَكُلٌّ مُيَسَّرٌ، أَمَّا أَهْلُ السَّعَادَةِ، فَيُيَسَّرُونَ لِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ السَّعَادَةِ، وَأَمَّا أَهْلُ الشِّقْوَةِ، فَيُيَسَّرُونَ لِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الشِّقْوَةِ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَى وَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَى وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَى فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَى

✧ We were at a funeral in Baqi' al-Gharqad, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and sat down, and we sat around him. He had a small staff, and he lowered his head and began scratching the ground with his staff. Then he said: There is not one of you, there is no soul that is breathed in, except that Allah has written its place in Paradise and its place in the Fire, and except that it has been written as wretched or blessed. He said: A man said: O Messenger of Allah, should we not rely on our book and abandon action? For whoever is among the people of blessedness will end up doing the deeds of the people of blessedness, and whoever is among the people of wretchedness will end up doing the deeds of the people of wretchedness. He said: Act, for everyone is facilitated. As for the people of blessedness, they are facilitated for the deeds of the people of blessedness, and as for the people of wretchedness, they are facilitated for the deeds of the people of wretchedness. Then he recited: As for him who gives and fears Allah, and believes in the best, We will ease him toward ease. But as for him who is stingy and considers himself self-sufficient, and denies the best, We will ease him toward hardship.
