حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُبَشِّرٌ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ، قَالَ:
أَتَى عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: كَيْفَ أُوتِرُ ؟ قَالَ: أَوْتِرْ بِرَكْعَةٍ وَاحِدَةً، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ يَقُولَ النَّاسُ: هِيَ الْبُتَيْرَاءُ، فَقَالَ: سُنَّةَ اللهِ وَسُنَّةَ رَسُولِهِ تُرِيدُ ؟ هَذِهِ سُنَّةُ اللهِ وَسُنَّةُ رَسُولِهِ
Translation

✧ A man came to Abdullah b. Umar and said: How should I perform witr? He said: Perform witr with a single rak'ah. He said: I fear people will say it is the severed one. He said: Do you want the Sunnah of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger? This is the Sunnah of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger.
