✧ They both spoke to Abdullah during the nights when the army encamped against Ibn al-Zubayr before he was killed, and said: It will not harm you not to perform Hajj this year. We fear that you may be prevented from reaching the House. He said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the disbelievers of Quraysh prevented us from reaching the House. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed his hady and shaved his head. I call you to witness that I have made Umrah obligatory upon myself. If Allah wills, I will set out. If I am allowed to reach the House, I will perform tawaf. If I am prevented from it, I will do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did while I was with him. He entered into ihram for Umrah at Dhul-Hulayfah. Then he traveled for a while and said: Their matter is one. I call you to witness that I have made Hajj obligatory upon myself along with my Umrah. He did not exit ihram from either of them until he exited on the Day of Sacrifice. He used to say: Whoever combines Hajj and Umrah and enters into ihram for both of them, he does not exit ihram until he exits from both of them together on the Day of Sacrifice, performing a single tawaf for both of them around the House, and between al-Safa and al-Marwah on the day he enters Makkah.
