✧ I was tending the sheep of the family of Abu Mu'ayt, and the Prophet ﷺ came to me with Abu Bakr b. Abi Quhafah. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O boy, do you have any milk to give us to drink?' I said: 'Yes, but I am entrusted.' He said: 'Do you have a ewe that is shasum (young, not yet covered by a ram and without an udder)?' I said: 'Yes.' So I brought him a shasum ewe. Salam said: 'Not yet covered by a ram, and it is one that has no udder.' The Prophet ﷺ wiped the place of the udder, and it had no udder, and suddenly there was an udder full of milk. I brought him a hollowed-out rock, and he milked it and gave Abu Bakr to drink and gave me to drink, then he drank. Then he said to the udder: 'Shrink,' and it returned to as it was. He said: 'I saw this with my own eyes from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me.' He wiped my head and said: 'May Allah bless you, for you are a taught boy.' So I embraced Islam and came to the Prophet ﷺ. While we were with him on Hira, Surat al-Mursalat was revealed to him, and I learned it while his mouth was still moist with it. I do not know with which of the two verses it ended: 'And when it is said to them: Bow down, they do not bow down' or 'Then in what statement after it will they believe?' I took from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seventy surahs, and I took the rest of the Quran from his companions. He said: 'While we were sleeping on Hira, nothing woke us except the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: The one who prevented it from you is the one who prevented you from it. We said: O Messenger of Allah, what is that? He said: A snake came out from the side of the mountain.'
