حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّةَ، قَالَ:

رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا يَتَوَضَّأُ، فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ حَتَّى أَنْقَاهُمَا، ثُمَّ مَضْمَضَ ثَلَاثًا، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا، وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ، وَغَسَلَ قَدَمَيْهِ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ، وَأَخَذَ فَضْلَ طَهُورِهِ فَشَرِبَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أُرِيَكُمْ كَيْفَ كَانَ طُهُورُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

Translation

✧ I saw 'Ali performing ablution. He washed his palms until he cleaned them, then rinsed his mouth three times, and sniffed water into his nose three times, and washed his face three times, and his forearms three times, and wiped his head, and washed his feet up to the ankles. Then he took some of the leftover water of his purification and drank it while standing. Then he said: "I wanted to show you how the purification of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was."
