حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَكِيمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ بُكِيَ عَلَيْهِ، فَخَرَجَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، إِلَى الرِّجَالِ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ شَأْنِ أُولَاءِ، إِنَّهُنَّ حَدِيثَاتُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُنْضَحُ عَلَيْهِ الْحَمِيمُ بِبُكَاءِ الْحَيِّ

Translation

✧ That when ʿAbd Allah b. Abu Bakr died, he was wept over. Abu Bakr went out to the men and said: 'I apologize to you concerning these women; they are new to the covenant from the time of ignorance. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "The deceased is scalded with boiling water because of the weeping of the living."'
