✧ Abū Bakr came asking permission to enter upon the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was wearing a mirṭ of the Mother of the Believers. He gave him permission, and he completed his need with him, then left. Then ʻUmar asked permission to enter, and he gave him permission while he was in that same state, and he completed his need with him, then left. Then ʻUthmān asked permission, and the Messenger of God ﷺ sat up straight and said to ʻĀʼishah: Gather your garments about you. Then he gave him permission. When he left, ʻĀʼishah said to him: Why did you not become alert for Abū Bakr and ʻUmar as you became alert for ʻUthmān? He said: ʻUthmān is a shy man, and if I had given him permission while I was in that state, I feared he would not fully convey his need.
