حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلْمٌ الْعَلَوِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ:
قُرِّبَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَحْفَةٌ فِيهَا قَرْعٌ، وَكَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ، قَالَ: فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يُدْخِلُ إِصْبَعَهُ يَلْتَمِسُ الْقَرْعَ، قَالَ: فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ، فَرَأَى عَلَيْهِ أَثَرَ صُفْرَةٍ فَكَرِهَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ لَا يُوَاجِهُ رَجُلًا فِي وَجْهِهِ بِشَيْءٍ يَكْرَهُهُ، فَلَمَّا قَامَ، قَالَ لِبَعْضِ الْقَوْمِ: لَوْ أَمَرْتُمْ هَذَا أَنْ يَدَعَ هَذِهِ الصُّفْرَةَ
Translation

✧ A dish containing gourd was brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he liked it. He said: I saw him put his finger in, seeking the gourd. He said: Then a man entered upon him and saw on him a trace of yellow dye, and the Messenger of God ﷺ disliked it; and he would not confront a man to his face with something he disliked. So when the man stood up, he said to some of the people: 'If only you would command this man to leave off this yellow dye.'
