✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, he stayed in an elevated area of Madinah, in a quarter called Banu Amr b. Awf. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed among them for fourteen nights. Then he sent for a group of Banu al-Najjar, and they came wearing their swords. Anas said: It is as if I am looking at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his riding camel, with Abu Bakr riding behind him, and a group of Banu al-Najjar around him, until he dismounted in the courtyard of Abu Ayyub. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray wherever the prayer overtook him, and he used to pray in sheep enclosures. Then he ordered the construction of the mosque, and he sent for a group of Banu al-Najjar, and they came. He said: 'O Banu al-Najjar, sell me this walled garden of yours.' They said: 'No, by Allah, we will seek no price for it except from Allah.' Anas said: In it there was what I am telling you: there were graves of the polytheists, it was ruined, and there were palm trees in it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the graves of the polytheists to be dug up, the ruins to be leveled, and the palm trees to be cut down. They placed the palm trunks as the qiblah side of the mosque, and they made its two doorposts of stone. He said: They carried those rocks while chanting, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with them, and they were saying: 'O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirun.'
