✧ Umm Sulaym sent me with fresh dates to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a plate, at the first ripening of the palm fruit. He said: I entered upon him and placed it before him, and he ate some of it. Then he took my hand and we went out. He had recently wed Zaynab bt. Jahsh. He said: He passed by some of his wives, and with them were men conversing. He said: They congratulated him, and the people congratulated him, saying: Praise be to Allah who has delighted your eye, O Messenger of Allah. Then he went on until he came to 'A'ishah, and there were men with her. He said: He disliked that, and when he disliked something it would show in his face. He said: I went to Umm Sulaym and told her, and Abu Talhah said: If it is as your son says, something will surely happen. He said: When evening came, the Prophet ﷺ went out and ascended the minbar, and recited this verse: 'O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you for a meal.' He said: Then he commanded the veil.
