حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ السَّامِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُكَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارُ بْنُ سَلَامَةَ الرِّيَاحِيُّ أَبُو الْمِنْهَالِ، قَالَ:
دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَلَى أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ، وَإِنَّ فِي أُذُنَيَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ قُرْطَيْنِ - أَيْ: غُلَامٌ - فَقَالَ أَبُو بَرْزَةَ: إِنِّي لَأَحْمَدُ اللهَ أَنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ ذَامًّا لِهَذَا الْحَيِّ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، فُلَانٌ هَاهُنَا يُقَاتِلُ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا، وَفُلَانٌ يُقَاتِلُ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا - يَعْنِي: عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ - حَتَّى ذَكَرَ ابْنَ الْأَزْرَقِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّ أَحَبَّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ لَهَذِهِ الْعِصَابَةُ الْمُلَبَّدَةُ، الْخَمِيصَةُ بُطُونُهُمْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، الْخَفِيفَةُ ظُهُورُهُمْ مِنْ دِمَائِهِمْ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: الْأُمَرَاءُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ - ثَلَاثًا - لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ حَقٌّ، وَلَهُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ حَقٌّ مَا فَعَلُوا ثَلَاثًا: مَا حَكَمُوا فَعَدَلُوا، وَاسْتُرْحِمُوا فَرَحِمُوا، وَعَاهَدُوا فَوَفَوْا، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُمْ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ
Translation

✧ I entered with my father upon Abu Barzah al-Aslami, and at that time I had two earrings in my ears—that is, I was a boy. Abu Barzah said: I praise Allah that I have come to condemn this tribe of Quraysh. So-and-so here fights for worldly gain, and so-and-so fights for worldly gain—meaning 'Abd al-Malik b. Marwan—until he mentioned Ibn al-Azraq. Then he said: The most beloved people to me are this band with matted hair, whose bellies are empty of the wealth of the Muslims, and whose backs are light of their blood. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The rulers are from Quraysh"—three times—"You have a right over them, and they have a right over you as long as they do three things: when they judge, they are just; when they are asked for mercy, they show mercy; and when they make a covenant, they fulfill it. Whoever of them does not do that, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people."
