✧ Indeed, Ayyub, the prophet of God, remained in his affliction for eighteen years. Near and far relatives shunned him, except for two men from among his brothers who were among his closest brothers. They would come to him in the morning and evening. One of them said to his companion: "Do you know, by God, Ayyub has committed a sin that no one else has committed?" His companion said: "What is that?" He said: "For eighteen years God has not had mercy on him and relieved him." When they went to him, the man could not bear it until he mentioned that to him. Ayyub said: "I do not know what you are saying, except that God knows that I used to pass by two men who were disputing and mentioning God, and I would return to my house and expiate for them, out of dislike that God should be mentioned except in truth." He said: And he used to go out for his need, and when he had finished his need, his wife would hold his hand until he reached home. One day he was late, and it was revealed to Ayyub in his place: "Strike with your foot: this is a cool bathing place and a drink." She found him late and met him waiting, and he came toward her, God having removed what was in him of affliction, and he was in the best state he had ever been. When she saw him, she said: "May God bless you! Have you seen God's prophet, this afflicted one? By God, I have not seen anyone more like him than you when he was healthy." He said: "Indeed, I am he." He had two threshing floors: one for wheat and one for barley. God sent two clouds. When one of them was over the wheat floor, it poured gold into it until it overflowed, and the other poured silver over the barley floor until it overflowed.
