حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:

ذَهَبْتُ بِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَتَنَاوَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ وَهُوَ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ يَهْنَأُ بَعِيرًا لَهُ، فَقَالَ: هَلْ مَعَكَ تَمْرٌ ؟ قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، فَنَاوَلْتُهُ تَمَرَاتٍ فَأَلْقَاهُنَّ فِي فِيهِ فَلَاكَهُنَّ، ثُمَّ فَغَرَ فَا الصَّبِيِّ فَمَجَّهُ فِي فِيهِ، فَجَعَلَ يَتَلَمَّظُهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: حِبُّ الْأَنْصَارِ التَّمْرُ، وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ

Translation

✧ I took Abdullah b. Abi Talha to the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Messenger of God took him while he was wearing an aba and was applying tar to a camel of his. He said: Do you have any dates? I said: Yes. I handed him some dates, and he put them in his mouth and chewed them. Then he opened the mouth of the infant and put them into his mouth. The infant began to suck on them. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: The Ansar love dates. And he named him Abdullah.
