حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ، فَهَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ ؟ قَالَ: فَجِئْتُهُ بِطَبَقٍ فِيهِ تَمْرٌ، وَإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ بَعْدَ مَا أَذَّنَ بِلَالٌ، فَقَالَ: انْظُرْ إِنْسَانًا يَأْكُلُ، فَخَرَجْتُ فَوَجَدْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ، فَدَعَوْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي شَرِبْتُ شَرْبَةً مِنْ سَوِيقٍ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ، فَتَسَحَّرَ مَعَهُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ

Translation

✧ "I intend to fast; do you have anything?" He said, "So I brought him a plate with dates and a vessel with water after Bilal had given the call to prayer. He said, 'Look for someone to eat.' So I went out and found Zayd b. Thabit, and I invited him. He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I drank a sip of sawiq while I intend to fast.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'And I intend to fast.' So he ate the pre-dawn meal with him, then prayed two rak'ahs, then went out and the prayer was commenced."
