✧ Delaying the Sahur

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
سَحِّرْنَا يَا أَنَسُ ! إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ، فَأَطْعِمْنِي شَيْئًا، فَجِئْتُهُ بِتَمْرٍ، وَإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ بَعْدَمَا أَذَّنَ بِلَالٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَنَسُ ! انْظُرْ إِنْسَانًا يَأْكُلُ مَعِي، " فَدَعَوْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! إِنِّي شَرِبْتُ شَرْبَةً مِنْ سَوِيقٍ، وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ " فَتَسَحَّرَ مَعَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ
Translation
✧ "Give us the predawn meal, O Anas! I intend to fast, so feed me something." So I brought him dates and a vessel containing water after Bilal had called the adhan. He said: "O Anas! Find someone to eat with me." So I called Zayd b. Thabit, who said: "O Messenger of God! I have drunk a sip of sawiq and I intend to fast." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "And I intend to fast." Then he ate the predawn meal with him, after which the Prophet ﷺ prayed two rak'ahs. Then he went out and the prayer was commenced.
