✧ Ibn al-Zubayr was mentioned, and he said: “How long he has been eager for command.” I said: “And what is that?” He said: “A thief was brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he ordered him to be killed. It was said: ‘He stole.’ He said: ‘Cut off his hand.’ Then he was brought after that to Abu Bakr having stolen, and his limbs had been cut off. Abu Bakr said: ‘I find nothing for you except what the Messenger of God ﷺ decreed for you on the day he ordered your killing, for he knew you better.’ So he ordered him to be killed by young boys from the sons of the Muhajirun, I among them. Ibn al-Zubayr said: ‘Put me in command over you.’ So we put him in command over us, and we went with him to al-Baqi and killed him.”
